Our Story
How it started
Welcome to FG Tackle Store. FG Tackle Store was established in the spring of 2024 making us the new kids on the block. Although we are as fresh as the bait in our fridges and the tackle on our shelves, the experience behind the store is more than 30 years in the making. Our shop is headed by Graeme Forrer and Eben Greyling. Eben approached his high school friend Graeme to partner up in a tackle store venture in Strand, Western Cape. With both Eben and Graeme having family history dating back to the 50’s in Gordons Bay, Stellenbosch and Strand, the area was deemed suitable for them to start their business.
The name FG Tackle stems from the FG knot, symbolising the strength of Forrer & Greyling tying their passions together to create a solid business venture. As a fisherman Graeme is constantly trying to convince Eben to buy more tackle and Eben is constantly reminding Graeme about the laws of a successful business. While Graeme is practically trying to give tackle away for free, Eben is there to remind him that it is a business and in order to serve our community, we need to derive a profit to stay well invested for many years to come. It’s a thing of beauty, a perfect balance, no fancy explanations needed. We are real people minus a facade.

As we are a growing store our floor space is about as limited as your time to hang around tackle shops during a working week. We will always have a physical store for those who want to come in and have a chat, grab their goodies or feel a new rod or reel, but the world has moved online and we have happily complied to these business norms. Enjoy a relaxed online shopping experience from the comfort of your couch and watch us grow this platform as we bring to you the best fishing products made and sourced by fisherman for fisherman.

About OUR
TACKLE Selection
The tackle selection is headed by Graeme. As an active sport fishing guide in Mozambique, Graeme has developed a deeply rooted love for game fishing, especially topwater fishing for Giant Trevally and his latest addiction, Black Marlin. In 1991 at age 6, Graeme in his larval stage was helped aboard his grandfathers commercial Ski Boat, a 21ft Ace Craft named “Cara Marie”, for his first trip to the Kob grounds off Stilbaai. His mother was beside herself as a commercial vessel was no place for a boy who could barely tie his shoe laces, never mind tangling with the denizens of the deep. Graeme quickly took to all things fishing, from competitive spearfishing to working as a Saltwater Fly Fishing guide in the UAE and topwater fishing for Giant Trevally in Oman. Graeme remains to be an active guide working with his great friend Morgan O’Kennedy of Big Blue Vilankulo in Mozambique. At home Graeme spends his time obsessing over Kob and Grunter on fly, but the one facet of angling closest to Graeme’s heart remains to be Rock & Surf angling. “Hunting fish on foot is a powerful and raw way of connecting with nature and the intertidal zone. There a few men or woman as free as a R&S angler at dawn with a head full of ideas and a cooler full of bait.” GF
